October 15th is Free Adminission Day at the Santa Monica History Museum, and they are excited to invite children and their families to our FREE Hands on History workshop on Saturday, October 15th from 11am to 12pm at the Santa Monica History Museum. This workshop will talk about the Old Soldier’s Home, now known as the VA Greater Los Angeles Medical Center, and veterans in Santa Monica.
Located on land originally deeded for use by veterans in 1888 by Arcadia Bandini Stearns de Baker and Senator John P. Jones the Veteran’s Affairs medical center in West Los Angeles has grown into a hub of activity and care for those who have served our country. During this Hands on History workshop participants will get to experience the newly opened temporary exhibit detailing the history of the Old Soldier’s Home including photographs and artifacts that help tell the story of veterans in this area. After the lesson in the galleries, participants will move to the museum lobby where they will create cards to be sent to veterans and active-duty service members to be received in time for Veteran’s Day.
