About Us
Set atop a Santa Monica bluff overlooking the Pacific, The Eden is a restored Streamline Moderne landmark with a history as striking as its setting. Originally opened in 1939 as the Shangri-La Apartment Hotel, the building was inspired by the idea of a seaside sanctuary, an escape shaped by beauty, calm, and modern design.
Designed by architect William E. Foster as a landlocked ocean liner,
The Eden remains one of Southern California’s finest examples of Streamline Moderne architecture, defined by sweeping curves, open-air galleries, and uninterrupted ocean views.
